Weekend at Boerne's

(Boerne is pronounced like burney -- see, weekend at burney's -- I'm so funny. Right?)

Anyway, it wasn't the whole weekend, it was just today.

And we spent it at Boerne's soccer fields. (The kids wouldn't let me go shopping even though the town has some delightful antique stores that were calling my name.)

It was Addison's first game on the new select soccer team.

Her team played in a tournament last weekend, but Addison was sick and missed all three games. She doesn't feel too bad about it though because they got creamed.

They won today 2-1.

Addison decided that it's all because of her being there. lol

Sorry the shot's a little blurry.....it's from all the action!!

Addison played a good game. She's playing defense this year and she was in for the whole game.

At one point she got body slammed to the ground but she bounced back up like a trooper.

Of course, she was spitting out dead grass for the next 5 minutes, but she was a trooper none the less.

When she got knocked down some of the parents from the other team started laughing.  Luckily, one of the other mom's from our team got onto them about it and I didn't have to go all 'mama bear' on them. (Not that I would intimidate anybody, except maybe some of the smaller kids on the teams.)

After the game we stopped at a little cafe called The Green Frog to have dinner.

They weren't serving this, though.

(That's just creepy, right? It's the leg from a stuffed animal that the dogs tore up. When I saw it laying in the drive I thought it looked so gross........so naturally I had to take a picture.)

The bad part about stopping to eat was that none of  them ordered off of the kids menu and they all ate their dinners.

Gaah!! I'm not ready for them to order full price meals.

It was a nice day and the weather (and the drive) were beautiful.

Early release day

The kids got out of school early today.

It's quite cold here and we've gone through rain, sleet, and now this...

Maybe we could work for the post office!!

Anyway, the two on the ground are building a snow man. I don't know if it ever got any bigger than that little pile.

Here's a close up of the Abigail and Kirsten trying to catch snow flakes.

(They'll hate me for that when they're in high school. Mwaahahaha!)

The kids were so funny playing in the snow.

They would go outside and play for awhile.

Since the day started with raining the ground is soaked and muddy under the snow.

Of course they got soaking wet.

They would come in the house and take off their pants, socks, coats, and gloves and throw them in the dryer. As soon as they were dry and warm they would get dressed again and head back out.

They were so funny to watch.

When I picked them up from school Wyatt said that when he found out that they were getting out early he thought it couldn't get any better than that. But then he found out that they aren't starting school until 10:00 tomorrow morning and that was even better. He told me tonight that this had been a great day.

But really, I'm glad we don't have days like this very often. I have no desire to have to drive in the ice or snow.

And to think, on Sunday it was beautiful outside and we had all the windows open to take advantage of the beautiful day inside the house as well.

Experiencing Technical Difficulties

Dax's cell phone has been broken for some time now.

He finally gave in and bought a new one.

Here's Kirsten teaching him how to use some of the functions on it.

When I was a kid, our usefulness was changing the channels on the t.v.

After the invention of the remote control, there was wide spread fear that children might become obsolete.

Thank goodness that all of this technology came along so that the world's children can still feel useful.

Right?

Be My Valentine?

The kids made these Thursday night to hand out at their class parties on Friday.

I would like to take credit for this idea but I got it from Erin

Aren't they hysterical?

I just love them!!

Believe it or not, Abigail wasn't sure about taking them. On Friday morning I finally told her that she had 10 minutes until time to leave and if she was taking the other kind ( I had bought the traditional kind just in case these didn't turn out) she better have them done by time to leave. (Mean, I know.)

She finally decided to just stick with these. Luckily they were a hit with the kids and teachers too.

Recruiting

Well, the recruiters have been to the 5th grade campus.

They come from the Junior High.

And I guess they were successful.

Addison, Abigail, and Wyatt have all signed up for band.

Abigail wants to play flute.

Addison and Wyatt both want to play the trumpet.

Dax and I are researching ways to sound-proof our bedroom so that they can practice their little hearts out and there will be no ill effects on us.

I guess we'll have to let Kirsten hang out with us during practice time.

But, as pay-back, I requested that they all be tested for honor's classes. mwahaha!

I don't know what that's paying Kirsten back for but I'm sure I'll think of something.

Nobody wanted to take honor's English (just math) but there's no reason they should get to take the easy way out.

Anyway, after I signed all the papers for being in band I told Kirsten that she's our favorite, again.

Although, that spot is in peril because Wyatt only signed up to bring paper plates and napkins to the class Valentine's Day party. The girls all signed up for food. (Do brownies and cookies actually count as food?)

An Award

I was honored with a blog award from Beth at Beth Will Rod and the Quads. Isn't that sweet? Thank you so much Beth.

Now, here are the rules that go with the award:

1. Thank the person who nominated you for this award and insert a link to their blog.

check

2. Pass on the award to about 15 other bloggers who you recently discovered and think are great!

15?!?!?!?! I don't think I could come up with 15 so I'll just list ones I read the most.
check

3. Contact the other bloggers and let them know they have been chosen for this award.

check

4. Say 7 things about yourself.

This is the hardest for me (believe it or not.)

Okay, seven things about me.

Lets see.........

1. I'm great at starting projects but terrible at getting them finished. For me, finishes are reason to celebrate.

2. I love to cook but hate to clean up after.

3. Some might call me a control freak. Of course I don't know where that would come from. I mean, just because I'd rather do it myself so that it's done the way I want it, does that make me a control freak?

Really?

It does?

hmph!

4. I'm afraid of cockroaches and heights. I guess a cockroach in a high place might send me over the edge.

5. I'm a sucker for animals....but I'm learning to just say NO.

6. I love bubble baths. Even when I was a kids I always gave my mom bubble bath for every gift giving occasion, even though I can't remember her ever taking a bubble bath. Therefore, I always got to use it.

7. I'm a craft junky. When I see something new, I can't wait to try it. I might never be able to finish all the things I have now (even if I lived to be 200) yet I still buy new things. I'm sure there's a 12 Step program out there for people like me. Maybe they give craft kits as door prizes if you go to the meeting?

Okay, now for the people I'm pasing the award to:

Ruffles and Stuff

It's a Crazy, Beautiful Life

Red Geranium Cottage

Okay, I know that's not many but I feel kind of overwhelmed trying to decide who gets one. Gaah!!!

Dog Grooming

Before Dax left for the office this morning, he told the kids that they need to work on clipping their dogs' nails.

We have a Pedi-Paws thing so they decided to use that.

Here's how it worked out with Rocky.

This was their second try and Abigail never got the silly thing turned on.

As you can see, he's not having any of it.

By the time they make it through all four dogs, the dogs and the kids should all be exhausted.

That was a close one!

Last night the dog was prancing around at the door wanting to go out.

Ha! I say 'The' dog like it could only be one dog and I don't live in a zoo.

It was this dog, Daisy.

(Even though she looks possessed in this picture, she's really not.)

Sorry, back to the story.

So, I let her outside and she immediately took off around the side of the house barking at something.

When the other dogs heard her barking, they all wanted outside too. So one of the kids opened the door to let them out and was smacked in the face with the smell of skunk!

I didn't want to even let the dogs back into the house because I was scared that Daisy had gotten close enough to be within firing range when she took off barking.

So I made the kids do it.

Luckily, she had not been sprayed and all was good. But, that was just a little too close for comfort. I'll be checking before I let her outside at night until the skunk mating season is over.

What a week!

...and it's only Tuesday!!!

Tonight I colored Kirsten's hair and she's now a strawberry blond. We were just trying to lighten it up but the natural red undertones have really shown up.

(I was hoping that the chemicals would kill any lice that might be trying to hang on.)

Now to the real happenings.....

When Dax picked the kids up from school yesterday, Addison wasn't wearing her glasses. She told him that the rain was causing light rings that gave her a headache. Well, today we find out that she wore her old glasses to school yesterday (by accident)and they got broken. She gave the broken glasses to her dad today and told a long story about how another boy in her class broke them. He called me at the office and was telling me the story and saying that we needed to tell the school and to contact the boy's parents when Addison gave him a note saying that she made the whole thing up.

What?!

I still don't think we've got the real story but I think we're getting closer. She says that she was cleaning them and the lens fell out. That part I can almost believe. I mean, if you know Addison and have taken a look at her classes, her actually caring whether they're clean or not is kind of a stretch. Anyway, I'm still not sure how they managed to get broken in two across the bridge of the nose.

Personally, I think she broke them so that she wouldn't accidentally wear them to school anymore. I mean it was just last week that she got hit by a basketball during p.e. and they didn't just get bent, they almost got tied in a knot. And, they have the memory wire in the frames so they can take an awful lot of abuse. Anyway, we probably won't know the whole story until she's around 20.

But, she does serve as a pretty good snitch too.

It seems that Kirsten got caught cheating at school today. She got in trouble at school and she got a long lecture from her father. Hopefully she's learned her lesson.

I mean, look at these kids.

How could those sweet little faces be lying and cheeting?

We also hear that Wyatt asked a girl to go out.

Unfortunately, she told him no.

Bless his heart, he's really upset about it. This is the first girl that he's even been willing to admit liking. I tried to talk to him about it a little, but it's hard to keep his nosie sisters out of the room and I know he won't talk in front of them. Dax didn't know if he should go try to talk to him about it too, but I don't want to over do it. He's not usually one to open up about those kinds of things.

Abigail has decided that since there was no drama involving her that she's now our favorite.

Dax and I are just left with our heads spinning.

I mean, they're not even teenagers yet!

I'm starting to get a little scared.

Breaking News

We interrupt this blog to bring you a breaking news story.

We've been informed here at the news station that this little girl....

...we'll call her Kirsten.....

has a boyfriend.

Yes, you heard that right.

She is reported to have a boyfriend and it has been leaked that his name is Nate.

As this reporter understands it, the whole incident went down during a period of time which is often referred to as 'the school day.'

That is really all we know for now, and Kirsten is not releasing any statements on these events.

As we understand it, though, her father is devastated.

Please stay tuned to this blog and we will update you as this story progresses.

And now we return you to your regularly scheduled programming.
