Catching up

This year has been crazy busy, or at least that's how it feels.

After we got home from vacation we discovered that one of the water lines was leaking. Addison and I got busy finding and fixing the problem.

Even though it had been only a couple of months since all of the flooding, the ground was hard as a rock already. But, we think we got it fixed. So far so good, anyway.

Then, just like that, the summer was over and it was back to school time.

I can't believe they are already juniors in high school! I know I say it all the time, but this has all just gone by so fast!

Not long after, Addison got her braces off.

That just leaves Abigail still in braces. As slow as her teeth move, she might be 30 before they get to come off!

Somewhere along the way we enjoyed a small hometown rodeo.

I've really decided that I like these better than the big rodeos. I don't know why, it's not like I'm riding in it or anything.

And Dax and I also celebrates out 20th wedding anniversary.

Who would have ever guessed what those twenty years would bring? But it's been a wonderful time.

Memorial Weekend Activities

We had a pretty low key Memorial Weekend.

On Saturday night we went to the annual 4-H rodeo where we always have a good time. It's fun to be there with other people we know and to watch people we know competing.

And they have funnel cakes!

On Sunday we went to my nieces graduation party. She'll be graduating 3rd in her class. Not too shabby!!  I still can't believe that now two of them are actually old enough be in college. Sheesh!

In case you can't tell, she's decided to attend the The University of Texas.

We left two of the kids with the grandparents for the week. Abigail and Kirsten both had tennis camp so they couldn't go yet.

On Saturday, we'll meet up again for Lexi's graduation and Wyatt will likely stay with his grandparents another week and Kirsten will go home with them too. Addison and Abigail have cheer camp next week.

On Monday we took the girls to practice tennis then bar-b-qued at home. It was a nice day.

It's rodeo time........

On Sunday evening we went to the annual Memorial Weekend Rodeo just down the road from us.

We all really enjoy it.

See here's a picture of Dax and I enjoying it.

We were lucky and even though it was very warm during the day, it was very windy so that kept it from being miserable out.

Here are a couple of  pictures from the evening. I'm sorry they're so bad. It was dark and I had to use my zoom at max so they're pretty grainy.

Bronc riding.....

Calf roping......

When they were getting the arena ready before everything got started, we decided this is the rodeo equivalent of the zamboni.

We tried to get the kids to go out and do the calf scramble or the mutton bustin' but they wouldn't even budge. They actually had an adult calf scramble but there certainly wasn't enough booze there to get either one of us into the arena for that!

It was a lot of fun and the kids look forward to it every year.

One of the bull riders got hurt and we all hope he's okay.

Memorial Weekend

We had a nice Memorial Weekend. I hope everyone else did too.

The 4-H club here in town sponsors a rodeo every year on Memorial Weekend and we've gone the last two years. It's really a lot of fun to go and participate in the local activities (we just don't do it often.)

When we told the kids we were going Kirsten was beside herself because she didn't have any rodeo clothes to wear--a scary vision of what's coming. After much searching she came up with what she perceives to be the right thing for a rodeo:

I guess she's at least wearing denim and boots. God she loves those boots!!

Here's Addison's rodeo duds:

That skirt is so long I don't know how she managed to even get up into the bleachers. lol

By the jackets on the two you would think we lived someplace where it's cold. I mean, it was all the way down in the 80's but do you really think they need the jackets?

The rodeo was a lot of fun but we couldn't get the kids to participate in any of it. Last year they at least tried the calf scramble. At one part the clown was digging for treasure in the arena and found a bag full of gum and candy and this mob of kids runs out to steal it from him. So he keeps looking to find more treasure. He finds another bag and as he's opening it the kids all run out again. Only this time he drops a skunk out of it!! You should have seen those kids trying to stop and turn around. It was great.

We spent the rest of the weekend mostly being lazy. The kids had to go to school on Monday and the day was beyond beautiful so Dax & I took The Mistress out for a drive and had lunch and he even let me do a little shopping (without complaining even.) It was delightful.
