The fun never stops!

On Saturday, while Kirsten and I made her costume for Friday's performance, Dax took the other three kiddos to ice skate.

He got them all set up and watched them skate for awhile, and then walked down to the music store. As it so often happens, while he was gone, Addison fell and cut her chin open. It wasn't bad (not as bad as the guy that was busy showing off when he fell, cut his chin open, bled all over the ice, and they had to stop the skating while they cleaned his blood off the ice.) She said it made her face hurt because every time she talked or smiled she could feel it.

Once they left there, they headed over to an elementary school Fall Festival where Addison was volunteering to help. They stayed there for about an hour or so, but they didn't really have much for Addison to do so they let her go home early.

On Sunday we were back out at the soccer fields. Getting there was a huge mess. The fields are new and are not on everyone's GPS on their phones. Two or three girls managed to get there with no trouble, but the rest of the team was lost. The team usually tries to get there an hour before the game start time, but the bulk of the team didn't arrive until about 5 minutes before game time. As it was, there were enough girls out that Addison's team didn't have any subs. It was a really physical game and as girls got hurt and had to sit down for a few minutes, they played with two less people on the field than a full team. Addison played hard but complained with having a headache.

Well, her headache lasted throughout the night on Sunday and all day Monday. I was suspecting that she might have gotten a concussion when she fell on the ice on Saturday. Then, on Tuesday she texted me that her head was hurting worse and that she was also nauseous. Yikes!! I was certain then that she had a concussion but was concerned that something more was wrong. So, Dax picked her up from school and took her to the doctor. The doctor confirmed the concussion but sent us to get a CT Scan just to be sure that nothing else was going on. The CT Scan came back clean, which is great, and she is to take it easy for a couple of weeks. We'll see if that drives her crazy or not. She's only got two soccer games left in her season so she's a little distraught that she might not get to play. She won't be playing this weekend for sure!

Been awhile......

It's been awhile since I've sat through a soccer practice for Addison.

Her knee wasn't well enough in time for her to make the soccer team at school so she's decided to play on a select team for the spring. I think she really enjoyed being out there playing again. I guess we'll see where the season takes us.

Tennis

Kirsten signed up for tennis this year.

She played in her first match (it was actually a couple of weeks ago) after only a week of practices. Fortunately it appears that the other team hadn't had much more practice than that either.

She played mixed doubles. I can't for the life of me remember her partner's name, but they call him Skippy.

The pictures aren't great because they were three courts away. Oh, and you can ignore the people standing around the courts. lol

I had hoped to get an action shot, but the closest I came was this shot of her kicking the racquet while she was waiting.

They won their match 4-2 so she was pretty excited. They have a tournament coming up later this month. Can't wait to watch her play again.

Baseball fever

Dax and Wyatt watched the World Series together.

Now, I think Wyatt's got baseball fever.

He's been talking about trying out for the team at school.

And since the weather has been so beautiful here, he's been talking his Dad (and his sisters too) into doing this every chance he gets.

Here's an action shot.....

The pictures would probably be better if I didn't have to hide to take them.  Every time I pick up my camera, they all stop what they're doing.

Wonder why?

What rest?

The weekend came and went with no rest. What's up with that?

As if making it through the first week back at school and on that schedule wasn't exhausting enough, Addison had a soccer tournament! It was quite a trek from home so Addison and I stayed in Helotes.

As luck would have it, it was also the hottest weekend of the year. Yippee!

They played two games on Saturday and two on Sunday. It was at least 110 for the afternoon games on both days. I don't know how the girls even did it.

I'm really proud of how our team played. A couple of the other teams were pretty aggressive. I know Addison took a couple of really hard hits but got back up and kept playing. Well, she did for the most part. One of the hits knocked her breath out so that took a little more time. She's a little banged up and quite sore.

The last game of the tournament was a nail biter. They were playing for the title and it was tied. It went into a shoot out at the end. Both teams get 5 shots alternating teams with each shot. Well, each time one team scored, the other did too. So then they had to just start going down the line until there was a winner. It was nerve wracking!!! It ended with the other team winning, so our team came in second. It was really too bad because they had been undefeated -- they had already beat this team once. The way this tournament worked, once they got to this game none of the other stats counted. Whoever won this one game got first place. The girls were dissapointed, but I think they were even more tired. lol

Here's the best picture I got of Addison getting her medal.

Then, on our way home, I got a text from Abigail that Addison's bunny had died. She was, of course, pretty upset about it. But sweet Abigail, bless her heart, had brought the bunny into the house to try to help her. The bunny was very old (she outlived the others by several years) and I think between her age and the heat it was just too much for her.

And goodness knows we need some rain here desperately. I mean, should Dax have needed to use this in order to dig a grave for the bunny?

Cheer practice starts up again this week, with the football games kicking in next week. And Addison has another soccer tournament this weekend. So, there's no rest in the forcast. BUT, the temp is supposed to be ONLY 91 or so this weekend!! Who thought we'd get excited for it to cool down to the 90's?

Let the summer fun begin.....

It's summer and the activities are already in full swing.

Monday night was the season end soccer party for Addison's team. I'm not really sure why they call it the end of the season though, because we're still practicing twice a week.

They had a pool party and we ordered pizza. I think she had a lot of fun. She went to bed early if that's any indication of her activity level at the party.

Kirsten started tennis camp on Tuesday morning. It was only for four days to let them get a feel for it and decide if it's something they want to pursue. I'm pretty sure she does, unless she decides that she just can't sweat that much. And like my mom said, we need for our children to get out there and get involved in more activities.

Here's a shot of the budding tennis pro.

She told me that she felt stupid taking this picture. She should be happy that it's in the driveway and not at the tennis courts. LOL

Wyatt went Tuesday night to skate and perform for the coaches so they could assign teams for the summer house league for hockey. Then on Wednesday night he had a checking class. He really didn't want to go because he was so sore from Tuesday night's activities, but we're mean and made him go suffer through it. It's for his own good. It builds character, right?  It's all good though because he enjoyed it.

Hounded by the Paparazzi

Evidently the paparazzi followed Wyatt to his hockey practice.

It's been reported that someone heard him say "Mom!!! Quit!" (Whatever that means.)

He really enjoys doing this. (The hockey, I mean. Not the pictures.)

Big weekend

We had a pretty important weekend around our house.

Friday night was the big homecoming game. Our team won (sixty something to zero is what I heard.)

But more importantly.........the big homecoming dance afterward!!

(Does anyone remember the name of a cheesy movie from the 80's where everything was 'the big' blah, blah, blah? Like 'the big parade', 'the big game', etc. It was a really silly movie but I can't for the life of me remember the name of it.)
So, this is the first year for our kids to be able to attend the dance. Now that they're in Jr. High.

Kirsten had a friend over, so those two plus Abigail, got ready at our house.

(I didn't want to include Kirsten's friend without her parents' permission.)

Anyway, after much primping and clothes changing they were happy with their looks so I dropped them off at the dance.

While I was talking to some other parents there, Addison and the friend she was spending the night with saw me and asked if they could change into their dance clothes in the back of the car (the windows in our suburban are tinted really dark). I said yes and drove to the back corner of the parking lot so they could change. That's when Addison realized she didn't have anything but sneakers with her. They wouldn't go with her dress at all!! lol

We don't live far from the school so I told her we could just run home and she could get another pair of shoes. Her friend went inside to tell her mom what we were doing, but then they wouldn't let her back out of the dance (for safety reasons) so I took Addison home and then back to the dance. She was 30 minutes late to the dance, her friend was afraid that I was going to be mad at her, and lots of teen girl drama was had. In the end though, it all worked out and the girls had fun.

Wyatt decided to stay at home and watch wrestling.

Yeah..........I know.

On Saturday, Addison had a soccer game.

Her team won 3-0.

Addison got hit in the face with a ball that had just been kicked. Hard!

It hit her in the face, her glasses flew off, and she went down.

It was a little scary, but she's fine. Her right eye was a little puffy yesterday, but she looked fine today.

And, she kept the other team from scoring.

I did advise her not to block with her face anymore.

I don't think she appreciates my humor.

I'm just going on record that I'm not ready for dances, romance, or sports injuries. Where did my babies go?

Fire at will.....

This weekend Wyatt had a shooting competition with 4H. It was his first competition and quite the learning experience.

His first competition was the 3 position shoot (standing, kneeling, laying down)with a .22. Who knew that in his division the 3P was really only the prone position (laying down)?

I'll tell you who knew, everyone there but us! All these other kids had these super expensive precision .22's made just for these competitions. Don't think he'll be doing this particular one again.

Then we moved on to his next round which was air pistol silhouttes. Who knew that the air pistol had to be pump and had to shoot pellets? Again, everyone there but us. I was able to find someone for him to borrow a gun from and he got a few of the silhouettes but still didn't do so great. The next round was the air pistol bullseye but he decided he didn't even want to compete in it. I can't say that I blame him.

I think next time he'll do the silhouettes with his .22 and maybe we'll buy a .22 pistol and he can do those too. But,man, I'm telling you these people take this stuff SERIOUSLY!

See what I mean?

The Two Musketeers

Last night in class Wyatt and Addison got to actually suit up and fence. They really loved it and I thought it was great watching them! Woohoo! We all win. lol

Addison is on the right in the above photo. She's fencing against a boy and she'll have to learn to be more agressive with it. She didn't have any problem with being agressive when she was fencing against Wyatt though. lol

In this picture Wyatt is the one on the left. He's fencing against another boy. Wyatt started off really well but then backed off a bit.

They both seem to really pay attention to the coaches and try to do it the way they're being told (not like when they played soccer.) When they're at home they practice fencing with Star Wars light sabers. LOL

Changes

Addison, who usually likes to do this

and Wyatt, who usually likes to do this

have both signed up for this!

They're terribly excited about it. They've been online looking up equipment, rules, and any information they can get their hot little hands on. I hope that it lives up to their expectations since they are so excited. However, it does make me a little nervous because it has the potential of bringing arguments between the kids to a whole new level. LOL!! Although, Wyatt already participates in this

(that's not him in the picture)

so I guess it really should be safe. 80)

Hope everyone has a great Labor Day weekend. We'll be going to my nieces 18th birthday party. I can't believe she's already 18....it's like she was just born yesterday. Where does the time go?
