While the kids are away....

The kids have been gone to 'Camp Grandma' for the last couple of weeks. While they've been gone, Dax and I have taken the opportunity to go do some of the things that they likely wouldn't want to do.

Exciting stuff.

Like we went to The Pacific War Museum.

It's a really well done museum. Much more well done than I had expected for the small town that it's in. The museum is full of information and rather large so we spent two days going through it (and still didn't see everything.)

On Labor Day they're going to have a reenactment of a battle in the area these pictures were taken.

I think we're going to try to take the kids to that.

That was really the most exciting thing that we did. LOL

I think that maybe not having the kids around has thrown me off my game, though. Like last Sunday I almost didn't make it through getting dinner cooked.

I was emptying the dishwasher and managed to know a pitcher of tea over, spilling it all over the clean dishes. Then I splashed boiling water over my hand while draining the noodles. I ran into the dishwasher door and scraped my shin. Then I was getting the food out of the cast iron skillet that I just taken out of the oven and grabbed the handle with my bare hand to hold it still. What the heck?! I can tell you that I was relieved to finally sit down to eat and even more so when I finally got back into bed.

The kids will be home later today so maybe things can get back to our kind of normal.

But now I'm a little scared of what might happen when they all move out. LOL

Not so boring after all......

Well, maybe it's not so boring after all with the kids gone.

Dax and I decided to head out to the flea market and just walk around so that we could get out for a little bit.

We did that, but not for long because it was so hot. Instead we drove back up to Gruene (pronounced 'green') and had lunch at the Grist Mill. We had sandwiches and onion rings. This is what was left of the onion rings.

They were gooooood!!

I had so much fun taking all those pictures of Dax last time that I did it again.

This is a picture of Dax telling me not to take his picture......

He's trying to look really mean in this one....
After lunch we went next door to Gruene Hall where they have live bands performing.

It wasn't too bad when we first got there. There weren't many people listening to the band that was playing and a breeze could blow through.

I found it interesting that this guy was up front painting, but we didn't see a finished product.

The second band that performed while we there was pretty impressive. While they were setting up, Dax commented that the drummer looked like he was about 12. He was wrong........the kid was 13. And the lead guitar player was 14. So now we're wondering if our kids are really underachievers. (I'm just kidding!!.....sorta.......lol)

When these kids were playing, the hall filled up and it got REALLY hot in there so we left at the end of their set and headed back home because I had a birthday cake to make for a friends birthday.

We had breakfast at the cafe' on Monday morning to celebrate her birthday (we eat there every Friday morning). Imagine our surprise when this came through the door!

He was getting ready to perform a rain dance. Why he's wearing a rabbit costume, nobody knows.

But it made for an interesting breakfast.

Then this morning, the dogs were chasing a skunk out front. Oh, joy!!!

Can't wait to see what the rest of the week brings.

The sound of quiet

Dax & I are enjoying the quiet at our house.

Yesterday the kids went to spend the week with their grandparents.

I know they will have fun. Dax & I tried to think of something to go do last night. I don't know if it's because we're too old or too cheap, but we could't even come up with anything fun to do. We even tried to go rent a movie but didn't find anything we were interested in. How sad is that?!

I guess it's alright though, because Dax and Wyatt went golfing on Friday and nearly died in the heat. It was too hot to even get through the first nine. With this kind of heat it makes it hard to get very interested in doing anything.

Weekend Adventures while the kids are gone

We've been working hard but also trying to fit in a little bit of play time while the kids are still gone. On Friday we decided to charter a plane and head to the mountains. It was amazing!!

Here's some shots from the plane. Sorry for the blurriness, it must have been the turbulence.

I think they sense our presence and are getting restless.

This one is making a get-away.

OMG!! Do you see that bear?! That little fox may be history. It's time to head home. I don't want to see the bloody outcome.

OR

Maybe we just went to Cabella's after going to the gun range.

On Saturday we went to Fredericksburg to their Trade Days for a little shopping and then had lunch.

For Father's Day I let Dax decide what he wanted to do so we headed to Austin to a gun show and then had lunch at The Hula Hut. They specialize in what I've decided to call Mexiwaiian food. It's Mexican food with a Hawaiian flare. Who would have guessed?

Anyway, we sat out on the patio over the water. The food was good and we had fun. He's starting to look a little relaxed.

Talked to the kids last night and they're having a great time.
